Description
De Moersleutel Craft Brewery has been around for 9 years already! This time they're celebrating with 3 sets of 3 beers.
This set consists of the following beers:
1) Calypso's Temptation
Everything about this beer exudes luxury – from the carefully selected whisky barrels to the rare vanilla. Seductive, extravagant and irresistible.
This stout has been aged in three American whiskey barrels: Weller Wheated (sweet and smooth), Sazerac Rye (spicy, slightly smoky) and Heaven Hill (reliable and balanced). To complete the seduction, vanilla from Madagascar, Papua New Guinea and rare beans from the Comoros Islands – which provide a rich, pastry-like depth and subtle tobacco notes.
Layers of creamy vanilla, warm whisky notes, wood and spice make this beer complex and seductive. This stout is like Calypso itself: luxurious, compelling and almost impossible to resist.
2) Return to Ithaca
Coming home after a long journey – this special quadrupel captures that feeling in every sip. Return to Ithaca is deep, rich and layered, with notes of raisins, dried fruit and soft caramel.
What makes this quadrupel really special is the layered use of oak. Spirals, cubes and even a touch of liquid tannins provide refined wood tones, a hint of vanilla and a subtle spiciness. The oak lifts the beer into a complex and harmonious whole, without being overpowering.
Brewed with a blend of barley, rye, wheat and spelt, this quadrupel gives a soft, full body with a refined malt profile. This is the penultimate chapter of our 9 anniversary beers – a beer like a homecoming, rich in character and full of stories.
3) Confronting Suitors
This beer is the crowning achievement of Moersleutel’s 9 anniversary beers, an ultimate expression of luxury and complexity. We pulled out all the stops for this non-adjunct barrel aged stout.
The beer matured in two special barrels. The first was originally not used for liquor, but for syrup, namely maple syrup, and adds a deep, salty sweetness that is unique in its kind. On the other hand, there is the spicy, slightly smoky character of Sazerac Rye bourbon barrels. Together, they create a beer that is both robust and refined, with a layered complexity that continues to surprise.
Just as Odysseus eventually returned to settle the score with the suitors, so this stout concludes our 9-year beer adventure: powerful, intense and unmistakably Moersleutel. Expect rich notes of salty maple, spicy rye whiskey, smoky oak and an impressively full-bodied mouthfeel.
